Job Summary:
Performs limited optical aide duties which involve assisting patrons in selecting frames and making minor frame repairs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists Dispensing Optician in performing the following functions:
- Making recommendations to patrons concerning the selection of frames from a wide variety of colors; recommends the correct size and fit based on facial structure, color of lenses, tinted or untinted, etc. Based on patron selection, prepares appropriate documents for processing.
- Fitting patron with finished product and making adjustment to frame as necessary.
- Making minor repairs to frames such as replacing screws and adjusting frames.
- Operates a cash register; collects and accounts for cash received from patrons and prepares Salesperson's Daily Cash Report (SS/120).
- Prices merchandise in accordance with established procedures. Also, assists with monthly inventory.
- Exercises tact, good manners and courtesy when serving and assisting customers. This is expressed by tactfully responding to patron inquiries and assisting patrons in a prompt and friendly manner.
- Works under the general supervision of a designated supervisor who makes assignments, and is available for advice and assistance, Work is reviewed for accuracy, adequacy, adherence to procedures and instructions, and customer satisfaction.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: One year responsible experience in clerical, office or retail sales store work of any kind which the applicant has demonstrated the ability to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled.
OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: 1 year of academic study above the high school level may be substituted for 9 months of experience, up to a maximum of a 4 year bachelor's degree for 3 years of general experience. For each year of general experience, one year of course work that includes an average of six semester hours a year in ophthalmic dispensing.
