The role of technical service is a key part of the overall selling effort.  PPG markets and sells superior technical know-how in conjunction with its products and services.  PPG customers place a high value on this know-how as it helps them run their operations in a cost effective manner.  Superior service is a key to maintaining existing business and developing sales position and strategies to acquire new business.  Very often the TSR serves in a dual role as they assume primary account responsibility (onsite) from a sales standpoint. TSR’s looked upon to provide the customer with a product and technical know-how to ensure PPG products and services outperform competitors’.  The TSR must be well versed in product composition, customer application equipment, environmental issues, and processes that are ancillary to the finishing operations.
 
S/he provides sales support to maintain and expand business at existing accounts and to assist with launches / start-ups of new accounts.  In addition to sales and profit plans at their assigned accounts, TSR’s provide key assistance in setting sales strategies and executing sales / profit plans for the entire product line / region.  S/he assists in the design, development commercialization of new coatings to ensure that these products work well on the customers’ processes.
 
In this role, the TSR will be a primary point of contact for a very large customer primarily supporting 6 customer facilities in the Redmond and Seattle, WA area.  A successful TSR will have to quickly come up to speed with PPG, our powder and liquid coating technologies, methodologies and this customer in order to ensure the high level of customer satisfaction that is expected and provided.   A successful TSR will also take a proactive approach as it relates to paint quality, addressing/solving issues, process management and be able to understand the customer operation to provide all-around strong service and support.
 
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Comply with all of PPG EHS guidelines and initiatives.
  • Build sales position by establishing strong customer relationships at all levels, provide timely resolution to customer’s concerns, and quickly troubleshoot problems.
  • Oversee / implement strategies for the management of inventory programs at customer locations of PPG product to increase inventory turns, reduce product obsolescence and maximize freight advantages.
  • Identify customer’s needs / expectations and assess competitive activities such that sales strategies can be developed to increase sales / profits.
  • Maximize profit contribution by differentiation through superior technical problem solving which produces higher yield rates, lower reject rates and optimum appearance on the customer’s production line.
  • Primary contact person for all customer complaints and questions.  Will be the lead spokesperson / liaison in communicating between the customer and internal PPG support departments.
  • May be asked to lead customer projects, assist with process improvements, and look for cost savings for the customer.  This will also include inventory management which may also include the ordering of all products for the customer and developing usage reports.
  • Individual may also service other customers in surrounding states and support the sales and service team when necessary

Required or Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least three (3) years of technical powder and/or liquid paint and coatings experience including experience with application equipment
 
Preferred Qualifications (in addition to Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience with Statistical Process Control and lean principles
Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and respect by working closely with the customer to develop strong relationships
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with an unselfish work ethic, a strong sense of self-accomplishment, and strong problem solving skills.
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution / trouble-shooting skills
  • Proficient computer skills and be comfortable in writing technical reports.
